By far the most important matter when looking at a CNC machine tool is having a full system backup for a myriad of reasons!
- Contains all the data necessary for the machine too run!
- Sometimes faults on machines are data corruption. Re-initialising the control system can solve issues.
- There may not be another backup available anywhere in the world. None from machine manufacturer, control OEM, distributor/dealer. With newer controls post 2000; backups are being done. Earlier controls is a major problem with non backup controls.
- Without a backup if you are very unlucky and cannot get one for your machine. Then you/your company are owner of a very heavy paperweight (not worth ignoring).
There are many websites that extensively detail how to backup the parameters on a CNC control system to SRAM level. We would suggest going further and backing up every part of the control system. Certainly with newer controls if the FROM fails you lose all of your NC basic files, drivers, PMC, and far more. It’s important that a full backup is taken then kept safe from the control for control system breakdowns, maintenance.
As a Fanuc repair specialist we are seeing more and more controls that have no backups. So no matter what we do to repair the control; without the full system backup; its a waste of time.
- This is one of them kick yourself in the ass moments when it hits the fan.
- There are 10’s of thousands of different CNC machine tools all with different paramater/options. None of these are the same; some similar, but then your paying big money to get an applications engineer to get everything up and running as it should.
- We don’t do anything or offer to repair controls without
